“I hope that this project based in BCUHB will inform our future management both on a local and national basis"

Awyr Las is pleased to announce the charity is funding a new £2,800 study into the quality of life impact on the treatment of Ears Nose and Throat cancer patients, which could benefit future patients.

Simon Morris, an ENT Registrar currently working in Wrexham Maelor Hospital, will complete the project under the supervision of Professor Arvind Arya (Consultant ENT Surgeon & Director Maelor Academic Unit of Medical & Surgical Sciences).

Mr Morris, originally from Cardiff, wants to investigate the quality-of-life impact of salvage laryngectomy on patients who have previously undergone chemoradiotherapy for advanced head and neck malignancy by undertaking interviews with this patient cohort. This group will be identified via the BCUHB head and neck cancer database which is used by the North Wales Regional Head & Neck Multi-Disciplinary Team to track patients’ management.

“I aim to explore this decision with participants to determine how we can better support future patients in the same scenario,” said Mr Morris.

“I hope that this project based in BCUHB will inform our future management both on a local and national basis,” he added.

Awyr Las wishes Mr Morris and Professor Arvind Arya all the very best with this important study.
