In July as well as Marissa Duggan taking part in the swim the staff are also organising a mini four-day music festival at Bryn y Neuadd-with patients, a local band and staff taking part. This year, they’re raising money to buy an outdoor trampoline for patients who can sometimes find it difficult to exercise indoors or due to being unwell are currently unable to access their activities in their community.

The Therapeutic Support Service at Bryn y Neuadd in Llanfairfechan is gaining quite a reputation for raising money to benefit their patients. Last year the fun-loving staff and even a visiting plumber took part in a 24hr disco that ended up raising £3,000 for new musical instruments for the patients. The year before, a parachute jump raised another £2,000.

The staff do this because of a strong belief that patients wellbeing involves not just medical and nursing care but in having someone to talk to, something to do and something to look forward to and events such as this fundraising alongside all the other activities they provide are part of the in patients treatment and assessment at the Therapeutic support Service.

Jane Williams, Ward Sister at Therapeutic Support Services said: nurse in Marissa, a skilled graduate of Sports Science as well as Learning Disability Nursing, a Marathon and Ultra Marathon runner and a wild swimmer to boot! She knows that the trampoline will make a huge difference to our service users who have requested it, and if we are successful in our fundraising, they’ll be able to use it in a safe environment.”

Ms Williams added: “Marissa is basically a superwoman and a great Nurse who always goes above and beyond what is expected for her patients, and she leads from the middle of the team, taking everyone with her.

“She is a fantastic role model for us all with a generous heart and a great deal of energy!”

Staff Nurse Marissa added: “The trampoline is going to be brilliant for our patients, exercise is always important as it releases endorphins and is fantastic for well-being.

“The trampoline will be for the ladies and gentleman we are lucky enough to support, now and in the future.”
