Buckley Masonic Lodge funds patient wellbeing boxes at Wrexham Maelor

The Buckley Masonic Lodge have donated an incredible £1,000 to the Star Box fund at Wrexham Maelor’s Shooting Star Unit to provide more than 50 wellbeing boxes for new cancer patients.

The Star Box, set up by a group of six volunteers in 2022, is a patient wellbeing box designed to support new chemotherapy patients at the start of their cancer treatment on the Shooting Star Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The box, designed for both male and female patients, was introduced to the unit earlier this year and is filled with comforting items including tissues, hand cream, reusable water bottle, a mug, tea, coffee and hot chocolate sachets, sweets and some luxury chocolates.

Anne Marie Humphreys, Senior Sister on the Shooting Star Unit and Star Box co-founder, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as recipients for the fundraising done by the Buckley Masonic Lodge.

“Each box costs approximately £15 to fill and the Star Box Team fill 40 boxes per month. Each new patient who attends the unit at the start of their chemotherapy is offered a box which is filled with goodies, and useful comfort items.”

The funds were raised from social functions and raffles held by the Masonic Lodge.
