AMU raffle raises hundreds for patient activities
The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) Short Stay at Wrexham Maelor Hospital hosted a Christmas raffle for staff, friends and family to help raise money for patient activities and amenities.
Over 500 raffle tickets were sold in the run up to Christmas, raising a huge £785 for the unit!
Clare Roberts, AMU Short Stay Sister who organised the raffle, said: “We wanted to help raise money this Christmas for patient activities and amenities. A lot of patients that come in, especially dementia patients, struggle to find something to do so we want to make sure we’ve got puzzle books, pens, and other activities for them to do on the ward.
“There are little things like mirrors for patients to use when shaving that we don’t have, remote controls for the televisions, all to help enhance people’s stay here.
“Staff have been really excited about the raffle and we’ve raised a huge amount which will help us buy these things for patients. It’s been a difficult few years for staff so it’s nice to be able to give them something to look forward to, whilst benefitting our patients.”
The prizes were donated by staff on the Unit and included chocolate hampers, drinks hampers, spa sets, travel vouchers, and so much more.
AMU Short Stay Nurse, Linda Amonoo, won the top prize of a lottery ticket Christmas tree worth £50!
