Raise a cuppa this summer for a healthcare service close to your heart!

Big Tea News

Awyr Las, the North Wales NHS Charity, is joining with NHS Charities across Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England to present the NHS Big Tea from Monday 24th June to Sunday 7th July and everyone is invited to join in.

People across the UK are holding tea dances, tea parties and are organising other events and activities to show appreciation for NHS staff and raise money make healthcare services even better for patients now and in the future.

Here in North Wales a special NHS themed cake competition has been organised, and you don’t have to be a star baker to take part! The winner will win their own iPad and £250 for the ward, service or department that's close to their heart.

Lynda Roberts from Breese Gwyndaf Solicitors in Porthmadog says:

“We thought this was a great opportunity to raise money for the I CAN campaign to support local mental health services. We’re keeping it simple. In the office we’ll be donating a pound from Monday 24th June to Sunday 7th July every time we have a cuppa. It’ll be interesting to see who in the office donates the most!

“The NHS does a fantastic job and we want to celebrate that. We also want to give back and help make sure that vulnerable people in our local area can benefit from the very best facilities and services, and that’s why we’re getting involved in the NHS Big Tea.”

Val Mold, Honorary President of Tŷ Enfys, the parents and carers accommodation in Ysbyty Gwynedd adds:

“Not all services provided in our hospitals and in NHS setting in the community are funded by the NHS. Thanks to Tŷ Enfys parents and carers can stay overnight to be close to their poorly children at no cost to them. Families rely on Tŷ Enfys and Tŷ Enfys relies on donations.

“Tŷ Enfys is invaluable to parents and carers. In order to offer this important service, which goes over and above what the NHS can provide, we need to raise money. That’s why I’m supporting the Big Tea Party and why I’m encouraging others to do the same.”

Delyth Williams, Head of Nursing at Ysbyty Gwynedd explains how grateful staff are:

“Last year lots of staff had fun getting involved in the cake competition for the NHS’ 70th birthday and many of us organised tea parties for our patients and relatives. It’s great because it also gives us time to celebrate achievements, have some fun and help raise money for the important extras that we know make a difference for our patients.

“It may be called the NHS Big Tea, but donations don’t need to be big. Whatever their size, the donations we receive do help to make a big difference for our patients.” If you’d like to show your support for an NHS ward, service or department that’s close to your heart, why not get involved in the Big Tea Party this month?
